Kun Iam

Ecumenical Center

Macao, China

“There is only one Essence of the Divine and It lives within each one of us.”

This complex of Public Art, idealised and created by Cristina Rocha Leiria, dedicated to the study of different religious thought and philosophy, especially the ones of Buddha, Lao Zi and Confucius, aspires to perpetuate the mutual respect and friendship between all peoples and civilisations, acting as a mirror of religious tolerance and cultural pluralism, which are multi-secular characteristics of Macao.

The 20 meter bronze statue that tops the monumental building represents the goddess Kun Iam (Guan Yin), a Buddhist divinity that consubstantiates Love, Mercy and Compassion, symbolising here a message of solidarity and peace.
